MRIed

Yesterday I had the chance to get a MRI scan. It was my first time and it gave me the chance to see some of the biomedical imaging equipements and their usages.

And of course there is nothing wrong with my health (I hope!), it was to help one of my friend with her project. They are studying the élaticities of the walls of the two main carotids in your neck that supplies your brain blood, by taking successive images of the neck synched with the heart rate, then measure the changes in diameter of the artery cross section. In order to accomplish this, she will need to collect some data. I was one of the subjects.

During the imaging process there were no feeling but it created quite a bit noise, which was applified by the cavity that surrounds the patient. For usages for a long time it is quite unpleasant for the patient. Noise reduction for the next generation MRI machines?
